Ocean Swell at Camp Cronin

A powerful ocean wave crashes against rocky jetty under a bright blue sky, with white clouds scattered above. A distant figure stands on the shore.

Ocean Swell at Camp Cronin by Alex Larson 鈥77

Alex Larson 鈥77 is a retired corporate economist living in San Antonio, Texas. In 2014, he returned to Rhode Island to visit family and friends and he shot this photo at Camp Cronin Fishing Area in Narragansett. The swell, he says, was bigger than what he typically sees here, and he wanted to capture the 鈥渆nergy and fury鈥 of the wave hitting the jetty. He adds, 鈥淭he man standing out on the jetty gives a feel for the scale of the wave.鈥

Larson shoots mostly 鈥渃ityscapes and Americana/Route 66 types of subjects, and traditional landscapes.鈥 His photos have been published in Black & White Magazine, the French magazine Photo, and Viewfinder, the quarterly journal of the Leica Society International.

鈥淲e have a saying about shooting seascapes,鈥 says Larson. 鈥淚f you didn鈥檛 get wet, you weren鈥檛 close enough!鈥
