Scammers are sending fake invoices or payment requests that appear to come from trusted companies or organizations such as PayPal, often requesting urgent action. Here\u2019s how these scams typically work and how to protect yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Invoice and Money Request Scams Work:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fake Orders<\/strong>: You receive an invoice or payment request for a product or service you never ordered. These are fake\u2014don\u2019t pay them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phony Customer Support<\/strong>: Scammers include alarming notes asking you to call a fake customer service number, aiming to steal personal or financial information over the phone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Warning Signs:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Unexpected Payment Requests<\/strong>: Invoices for items or services you didn\u2019t order.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Urgent Language<\/strong>: Messages pressuring you to act immediately to avoid \u201cpenalties\u201d or stop a transaction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Impersonation<\/strong>: Messages claiming to be from reputable businesses or individuals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Steps to Protect Yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Do Not Pay<\/strong>: Ignore payment requests for anything you didn\u2019t order.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Avoid Links and Phone Numbers<\/strong>: Never click suspicious links or call phone numbers in invoice notes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ignore Cryptocurrency Wallets<\/strong>: Never send money to a cryptocurrency wallet mentioned in any request.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Report and Delete<\/strong>: Use <strong>PhishAlarm <\/strong>to report suspicious activity to the Information Security Team, then delete the message immediately.
