Each of us plays a vital role in creating and maintaining an environment free from discrimination and harassment, in alignment with the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/trustees\/university-mission-statement\/\"><strong>University\u2019s mission<\/strong><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you prepare for mid-terms, and continue to support students, faculty, and staff this academic year, we encourage you to consider the following resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Responding to Allegations of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1rFcvsMsnj3lsiCVukXm7-uo058s1chTTdSFRh3leyu8\/edit?tab=t.0\"><strong>Discrimination<\/strong><\/a><strong> and Harassment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/discrimination\/\"><strong>discrimination<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>tab on our website offers a menu of resources to help you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/protecting-the-rights-and-dignity-of-all-911±¬ΑΟ-members\/\"><strong>Identify individuals<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>benefiting from protection by law (also, \u201ccovered individuals\u201d).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2127\/Civil-Rights-Scope-and-Jurisdiction.pdf\"><strong>scope, jurisdiction, and appropriate triaging<\/strong><\/a> if an individual reports allegations of discrimination or harassment to you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refer students and employees who wish to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/appealing-the-denial-of-a-reasonable-accommodation-request\/\"><strong>appeal the denial of a reasonable accommodation<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>request.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offer <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/consultations\/\"><strong>consultations<\/strong><\/a> to individuals alleging discrimination, harassment, or retaliation, as outlined in the Policy on Nondiscrimination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/support-resources\/\"><strong>support resources<\/strong><\/a> to those navigating the grievance process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarify <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2127\/OEO-Grievance-Process-2024.jpg\"><strong>grievance process options<\/strong><\/a> under the Policy on Nondiscrimination, which include the informal complaint option (mediation) and a formal complaint option (investigation).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide answers to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/frequently-asked-questions\/\"><strong>frequently asked questions<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> in alignment with our legal obligations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We encourage you to report complaints of sex-based discrimination and sex-based harassment by contacting the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/titleix\/know-your-title-ix\/\"><strong>Title IX coordinator<\/strong>, who is responsible <\/a>for review and triaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For additional information, please refer to the Policy on Nondiscrimination and the Policy on Sexual Misconduct,&nbsp; which were introduced to ensure the University meets reporting obligations and remains in good standing, while also facilitating the re-routing of complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accessibility Compliance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/ada-compliance\/\"><strong>ADA compliance<\/strong><\/a> page provides a menu of options you may consider. The <strong>Civil Rights Compliance Toolkit for Employee Recruitment, Selection, and Hiring<\/strong> is being&nbsp; updated, following the revocation of Executive Order 11246, and will be published on the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/equal-opportunity\/affirmative-action-in-employment\/\"><strong>Office of Equal Opportunity website<\/strong><\/a> in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In-Person Training: <\/strong>Our team offers in-person training to department chairs, faculty, staff, and students on the topic of \u201c<strong>Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding to Complaints Intersecting with Civil Rights Laws and Regulations,\u201d<\/strong> and other civil rights compliance topics. The interactive sessions allow ample time for participation and questions. Please contact a member of our team to schedule a training session for your college or department, or invite us to attend one of your team meetings to answer frequently asked questions on the topics of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and accessibility compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our team is here to support you and wishes you a successful semester.
