Weather Alert: Classes Canceled, 911±¬ÁÏ Offices Closed on Tuesday, Feb. 24

Monday, Feb. 23, 2026

As heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions continue across Rhode Island, we remain mindful of the challenges this storm is creating for our 911±¬ÁÏ 911±¬ÁÏ. In light of these conditions, and with the safety of our 911±¬ÁÏ as our priority, the University of Rhode Island is making the following adjustments to class schedules, campus operations, and parking.

CLASS SCHEDULES
All in-person classes across all 911±¬ÁÏ campuses are canceled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. Synchronous online classes will not be held. For asynchronous online courses, students should check Brightspace for updates and faculty and students are encouraged to be flexible with assignments and deadlines given ongoing, widespread power outages.

In-area pharmacy, nursing, and physical therapy students should contact their site preceptor/clinical instructor to discuss the appropriate actions to take.

UNIVERSITY OPERATIONS
All University offices will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. Essential employees are required to report to work. Non-essential employees should not report to work and are not expected to work remotely.

Gov. Dan McKee has also announced that state offices and agencies will remain closed until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

PARKING
A full parking ban remains in effect and has been extended through at least 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Vehicles parked in areas prohibited during a full parking ban will be towed and/or ticketed at the owner’s expense. Vehicles without a valid 911±¬ÁÏ parking permit will be towed at the owner’s expense.

During the parking ban, parking is prohibited on all roadways and roadside parking areas across campus, as well as in commuter and faculty/staff lots. Vehicles with residential permits must be moved to the Keaney, Plains Road South (Solar), or Briar Lane lots. (Vehicles with Brookside permits may remain in the Brookside lot.)

CAMPUS SERVICES
Essential campus services, including dining and health services, will remain available with modified hours. Community members are encouraged to review updated hours of operation:

Our dedicated facilities crews are working around the clock to clear snow from roadways, walkways, and parking areas across campus. Those on campus, including students living in residence halls, are asked to remain indoors as much as possible and limit time outside, except when necessary to access essential services such as dining halls, so snow removal teams can work safely and efficiently.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
The cancelation of classes includes the cancelation of campus activities scheduled during the same period. For questions about a specific University event, please contact the event organizer directly.
