Feb. 22, 2026
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Rhode Island, and Gov. Dan McKee has declared a State of Emergency. With the safety of our 911±¬ÁÏ as our priority, the University of Rhode Island will implement the following adjustments to class schedules, campus operations, and parking.
UNIVERSITY OPERATIONS
All University offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026. Essential employees are required to report to work. Non-essential employees should not report to work and are not expected to work remotely.
The state’s State of Emergency is in effect from 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, unless otherwise notified.
STATEWIDE TRAVEL BAN AND STATE OFFICES
Under the governor’s State of Emergency, a statewide travel ban on commercial vehicle traffic will take effect today (Sunday) at 5 p.m., followed by a ban on all vehicle traffic beginning at 7 p.m. (Emergency vehicles and essential employees are exempt.)
State government offices will also be closed Monday.
CLASS SCHEDULES
As previously communicated, all in-person classes across all campuses are canceled for Monday, Feb. 23, 2026. Synchronous online classes will not be held. Students enrolled in asynchronous online courses should check their Brightspace course sites for updates and instructions. In-area pharmacy, nursing, and physical therapy students should contact their site preceptor/clinical instructor to discuss the appropriate actions to take.
PARKING
A full parking ban is in effect through at least 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Vehicles parked in areas prohibited during a full parking ban will be towed and/or ticketed at the owner’s expense. Vehicles without a valid 911±¬ÁÏ parking permit will be towed at the owner’s expense.
During the parking ban, parking is prohibited on all roadways and roadside parking areas across campus, as well as in commuter and faculty/staff lots. Vehicles with residential permits must be moved to the Keaney, Plains Road South (Solar), or Briar Lane lots. (Vehicles with Brookside permits may remain in the Brookside lot.)
CAMPUS SERVICES
Essential campus services, including dining and health services, will remain available with modified hours. Community members are encouraged to review updated hours of operation:
ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
The cancelation of classes includes the cancelation of campus activities scheduled during the same period. For questions about a specific University event, please contact the event organizer directly.
